Limnio, one of Greece’s oldest grape varieties, has a similar alcohol level and spiciness to the Merlots and Syrahs familiar to the American wine palate. Winemaker Giorgos Vourvoukelis applies modern winemaking techniques to perfect a fresh style of Limnio. Get acquainted with this must-try and see why many are calling it "The Best Red Wine of 2018."

Variety: 100% Limnio. This wine is one of the very few full-Limnio options, as this grape variety is more often used in blends.

Similar To: Limnio vines produce high sugar weights which translate into noticeable alcohol levels similar to that of New-World Merlot and Syrah.

Tastes Like: This dry red wine exhibits soft fruit aromas of cherry, plums, and pomegranate, as well as spicier notes of cedar, chocolate, cardamom, and curry. Subtle oak perfumes imparted by its 6 months of maturation in oak barrels round out the nose. Full-bodied yet elegant, the wine provides a dry and citrusy mouthfeel with flavors of red fruits, spices, and dark chocolate.

Pairs With: With fruit-forwardness and a long pepper finish, this 100% Limnio is the perfect complement to spicy and aged cheeses, charcuterie platters of sausages and cured meats, and meat entrees with fruit or sweet-and-sour sauces.

Alcohol: 13%

PGI Avdira: This wine is produced in the Protected Geographical Indication area of Avdira, a fishing village situated in the district of Xanthi in Thrace. It has a long tradition of winegrowing and winemaking and is the most active winegrowing area of Thrace today.
